1. Keep the drama in the game. We’re all here to have fun; we don’t want to see harassment of players or OOC drama anywhere. If you and another player are not getting along, speak to the mods about it. This goes for the journals, the chats, and anything having to do with Project Daisychain. On that same note, bear in mind that you are not your character. IC drama and fighting will happen—it can be fun and interesting if everyone keeps in mind that IC does not equal OOC.

2. Please make an effort to show your best quality writing in this game. It’s only as much fun as you put into it. This does not mean we’re looking for perfection in all your posts—it means you should tailor your writing to fit your character and make a decent effort at grammar and spelling. Keep in mind when writing third-person logs with another player to give something of substance for your fellow player to react to. First-person journal entries should be as close to your character’s voice as you can make them—great spelling and grammar are not necessary in first person if it doesn’t fit your character.

3. Think before you post, and consider the consequences of your character’s actions. A character traipsing around in Central Park or trying his luck at swimming off the island should not be surprised if Big Mommy shows up none-too-pleased. For a less extreme example, a character who decides to grope another character unexpectedly might get a punch in the face. Talk to your fellow players in IMs or e-mails to hash out issues ahead of time and make sure you’re all on the same page. And remember, under no circumstances is god-moding acceptable. This means controlling another character without the player’s permission. If you want to add another character’s action to your post, no matter how small, make sure you have the permission of that character’s player—or just don’t do it.

4. Occasionally it's appropriate and expected to ask the mods for permission to do certain kinds of plots. This includes anything that would involve the monster or its territory (i.e. Central Park), something that would involve the crabs beyond a simple encounter, something that would affect a large group of people, etc. We also ask to be consulted for plots that have long-term and/or deeply traumatic effects on a character (i.e. rape, mutilation, pregnancy, death, etc). Some of these plots may not be appropriate for this community. When in doubt, ask a mod. Always mark your threads with a warning if they contain R-rated content such as sex and excessive violence, and also note when you have received permission from the moderators to do a certain thread/plot.

5. OOC knowledge does not equal IC knowledge. As the game goes on, you may learn plot tidbits or interesting information about other characters, but these are things that you know, not what your character knows. Assume your character knows nothing that he or she has not been directly told by another character. Speculation, of course, is always a possibility, but be reasonable.

6. Do not leave people hanging in your threads. In a two-person thread, four days should be the absolute longest period of time you go without posting, unless there are special circumstances (a vacation, an illness, etc). In threads with more than two people, post within two days. Threads with lots of people can get dragged out forever if someone is delaying an update. Keep up with your posts, or don’t be surprised if the people you’re threading with go on without you. And please put “It’s gonna be the best night ever” at the end of your application so we know you read these rules.

7. Post at least once a week in a thread (or starting a thread, or a narrative). Journal entries can be done at your discretion. Keep up regularly with the game or your character will be removed; please don’t apply for anyone you don’t intend to play with.

8. Hiatuses are available for up to a month. You can call a hiatus by going to the Hiatus List and filling out the comment form. If you know you're going to be inactive, call a hiatus; periods of inactivity followed by a hiatus will all count toward one month-long hiatus. In other words, if you call a hiatus and your last thread was dated two weeks ago, you'll have a two-week hiatus until we ask you to return or drop. (As always, if there are extenuating circumstances please IM or e-mail the mods.) Hiatus notices must be posted to the Hiatus List; you should also notify us when you are coming off hiatus by replying to your original comment (before you begin posting and journaling again). You might want to post going away/coming back notices on [info]daisychainooc as well, but that's up to you.

9. Applications open every three weeks for one week, and all reservations in between go into effect that week. Only one application per open app period is allowed from each player. Players are currently limited to seven characters overall, and only two from the same canon. We encourage a variety of characters and canons in Project Daisychain.

10. Please do not join the communities with either your personal LJ or your character's journal until you've applied and been accepted. Upon acceptance, post your application (all except the samples) in the profile on your character's journal.
